The AOTA released a statement on December 12th that reviewed two separate rankings for the profession of occupational therapy. The results of the
rankings can perhaps allow occupational therapists and occupational therapy
assistants breathe a little easier during the holiday months.
The first was from Laurence Shatkin, Ph.D.'s book "150 Best
Recession-Proof Jobs" As the title
suggests, the author lists 150 jobs that are likely to be secure in respect to
our current economic climate. Occupational therapist was ranked 18th
and occupational therapy assistant weighed in at 72nd in the "Best
Recession Proof Jobs Overall"Â. There
were several other rankings available that include fastest-growing, highest
percentage of workers over 55, and highest percentage of women.
The U.S. News &
World Report also recognized occupational therapy as an eye-catching profession.
In their 2009 rankings of Best Careers, OT was listed for the second
consecutive year. The article highlighted a day in the life of an OT, the
diversity of the profession, and salary statistics.
