Low Vision Assessment and Intervention for the General Practitioner

Join the RDSIS for Low Vision Assessment and Intervention for the General Practitioner Tuesday, April 22nd from 6:00-8:00pm ET! This presentation will This presentation will cover both introductory and intermediate level material on low vision assessment and intervention. Topics will include:

  • Common conditions associated with low vision
  • The various team members involved in low vision care
  • Occupational therapy scope of practice and assessment tools in low vision
  • Interventions, devices, and resources commonly used in the treatment of individuals with low vision
  • Common vision impairments experienced by individuals with acquired brain injury

Based on survey results, there will be a heavier focus on intervention ideas, optical devices, and durable medical equipment (DME).

Presenter:  Brandi Nicolette-Baker, OTR/L, CBIS, CSRS, LSVT-BIG

Brandi began her journey as an Occupational Therapist in 1996 after graduating from Indiana University. Since then, she has collaborated with clients across a wide range of contexts, from the neonatal intensive care unit to hospice care services. She is passionate about empowering her clients to engage and participate in their world.

With over 25 years of experience as a fieldwork educator, Brandi has enjoyed mentoring future OT providers and learning from them. She currently serves as the OT provider for the Parkview ALS Clinic and works at Parkview Orthopedic Hospital. Additionally, she is a content expert at Huntington University, where she teaches Research I: Critical Inquiry.

Brandi is pursuing her post-professional doctorate from the University of Alabama while completing their graduate certificate program in low vision rehabilitation. She recognizes the critical role occupational therapy providers play in low vision rehabilitation and aims to improve client access to OT low vision services in Northeast Indiana.

Brandi has successfully completed the Emery Vestibular Rehab program and holds certifications in CBIS, CSRS, and LSVT-BIG.
