This presentation examines the concept of reflex integration within occupational therapy. The presenter will define reflexes, review reflex integration, and discuss the theoretical basis for evaluation of reflexes in a child with sensory integration and processing differences.  The presenter will review the evidence on reflex integration therapy and provide an evidence-based approach to the evaluation and treatment of retained reflexes within the context of occupation.

Presenter: Dr. Aimee Piller, PhD, OTR/L, BCP

Objectives:

1. Participants will define primitive reflexes and explain their developmental purpose and relationship to sensory and motor skills.

2. Participants will evaluate the evidence base for reflex integration interventions and identify their limitations within occupational therapy practice.

3. Participants will apply occupation-based reasoning to determine when and how reflex assessment should inform evidence-based, functionally relevant OT interventions.

A zoom link will be sent upon registration.
